Why create TRYST?

I’ve gone to Burning Man and regional burns for years with my partner, but one year she missed several events, and I ended up attending three solo. We’re sex-positive and allow each other to explore freely, but I found myself excluded from many sex-positive events because I was alone rather than in a couple.

That experience opened my eyes to how Burning Man and the world can sometimes exclude singles, trans people, and furries. It made me realize my own privilege. I didn’t want Burning Man to mirror the exclusion often seen in the swinger world, so I told my partner, “Let’s create a camp that truly embraces Radical Self-Expression and Inclusion.”

And here we are, gathering like-minded people to make it happen!

What will TRYST be like for Guests?

You'll spot our 26-foot wide, 14-foot tall inflatable Rainbow Arch from the road, and we'd love to add lighting inside if possible. The front of the structure will be 30 feet wide and 15 feet tall, featuring our TRYST logo and signs like “Perverted Adults Only” to signal that we’re not a family-friendly camp. Our logo blends male, female, and trans symbols into the Y of "TRYST," with the arrows forming animal ears – it's all about inclusion! Do you think we need to specify who’s welcome, or is this enough?

Inside, we envision three areas. The "Lounge" is the first space, followed by the "Play Space," and deeper paths lead to various zones designed to meet different desires. We plan to play relaxing, wordless music with occasional sexy sounds, adjusting the vibe from chill to more energetic throughout the day. Some of the things we want to have for the space  are radiant heaters, which will warm the seating and play areas during cooler times, and we’d also like to have porta potties behind the shelter for convenience.

The Lounge will feature soft, colorful lighting, fabrics, and thought-provoking questions about sex and radical self-expression. It’s a space to meet people, play games like Spin-The-Bottle or Truth-or-Dare, share experiences, and possibly explore nudity, flirty touches, or kissing. We want everyone to feel comfortable being open about their desires, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity.

The Play Space will have a space-themed ambiance with stars and galaxies projected on the walls. Vinyl-wrapped mattresses, benches, and play furniture will provide comfortable spots for relaxation or play, with stations for condoms, lube, and cleaning supplies. Guests may bring their own bedding, which is always appreciated.

What is TRYST like for campmates?

There are five major work loads:

  1. Setting up your own camp so you have your own needs taken care of.
  2. Setting up the 30x80 Shelter
  3. Decorating and setting up the exterior and interior of the shelter.
  4. Supervising the guests to be sure we have consent aka Lifeguard-On-Duty, restocking cleaning supplies, keeping the generators and heaters working and cleaning up when necessary.
  5. Taking down the shelter and everything else and packing it all up ready for next year.

Who are the founders and what are they like?

Chance aka Quinn and Becca aka Sugar have been together over a decade, we identify as polyamorous primary partners and we have been to several big burns at BRC. We also enjoy supporting regional BM events closer to home and have been part of camps like Booti Frutti, Burning Mail and Cosmic Flow. In the past Sugar and Chance have camped with The Wrong Neighborhood (a working camp) and we have really enjoyed giving out cold drinks, providing bar service, pancake breakfasts and ice cream cones to others. We enjoy kink and private play time with special friends. We live just across the border in Canada a couple hours away from Vancouver. We enjoy kind people and we hope to help make this world a better place.
